The TBH Series: The Thursday Blog Hour Series #Episode003

Namaste dear readers,

Welcome Welcome back to The TBH series: The Thursday Blog Hour series

In the previous episode of The TBH series, we got to know what are our inner and outer trash. Quick recap: Inner trash - Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Mada, Matsarya and Moha. Outer trash – Today's social media. Since we have the recap I thought of including a crispy precap of today's episode only to realize I’m incapable of doing that. So, sorry, there’s no precap.

In these 6-7 days after posting episode 2 I thought I was not addressing many other trashes. And right now at 10:13 today I’m feeling it is too dramatic to address these issues as “trash”. Since I had an issue with my excessive consumption of social media(my screentime for social media alone was around 3 to 4 hours a day back then) was an issue and knowing that this was not a good sign I decided to put an end to the mindless scrolling considering social media a TRASH. But, since, fortunately, I don’t struggle with many other issues I failed to mention them earlier and now I’ll address them in upcoming episodes. Apart from this paragraph remaining parts were written last week. My apologies for my unstructured presentation and say apologise for making you to go through my RAW OPINIONS. I’ll work hard, I’ll improve, the blog will get better.  For now, if you found the previous two episodes comfortable reading you can please continue reading episode 3. Please do let me know your opinions, suggestions, advice and also criticism if any by writing to me at ahamjogiblogs@gmail.com

Considering…NO… realizing today’s social media is trash… wait a minute. I haven’t told you guys “Why social media is TRASH?” let me tell you now. Before that, there are some basics to be known like What is social media? What is the purpose of it? What are the various social media we have today? What are the advantages and disadvantages of social media?

So, basically, Social media is a platform where individuals or groups create, share, and exchange content which may be thoughts, information, ideas, or opinions online. Its actual purpose was to have communication, to connect people worldwide, sharing information, News, events, opinions, and updates, for Entertainment, Memes, videos, reels, and live streams, for building professional and personal network connections, for business and marketing, promoting brands, products, and services, for educational purpose through tutorials and webinars and also for Activism like spreading awareness and driving social movements too. The purpose when served became the advantages. Yes, Global Connectivity is achieved by breaking geographical barriers. Yes, a Platform for Creativity is achieved by showcasing talents and skills. Yes, Learning Opportunities like tutorials, courses, and webinars are provided at affordable cost and accessible to the masses, Business Growth is seen with brand promotion, targeted ads, and audience insights, Raising Awareness about Social and environmental issues, all these at so much of Convenience. This is not the end. There are disadvantages too. Addictions leading to time wastage. Mental Health Issues like Anxiety, depression, and FOMO (fear of missing out), Spread of Misinformation, Fake news and rumours, Privacy Concerns like Data breaches and cyber threats, Social Comparison which brings Unrealistic expectations and self-esteem issues, Neglecting Real-life Interaction due to Over-reliance on virtual communication.

Facebook was made as a Social Networking Site, Twitter and Thread were created as Microblogging Platforms, Instagram, Snapchat, and youtube were meant for Photo and Video Sharing, WhatsApp, and Telegram were for Messaging Apps, Reddit, and Quora were initially for Community Platforms, TikTok, Pinterest was for Content Creation/Sharing, LinkedIn is for Professional Platforms. But except for a few all other social media are being used as per the users' requirements and intentions. Someone found a job via Facebook and someone is posting a fancy selfie on LinkedIn. Telegram has become the new one-stop shop for various illegal stuff from pirated movies to drugs to other worst possible things. Day by day Reddit and Quora are losing their genuine members but still better than other social media. YouTube is slowly becoming the new changing room and To be honest, Instagram is a few steps back from becoming the official Adult-only platform. With all this happening is it just the FOMO or the evil spirit keeping the masses hooked to these trashes?  Will discuss this in the next episode of The TBH Series: The Thursday Blog Hour Series #Episode004
