TV/MOBILE + EATING = NOT GOOD

There was a time when people used to tell “Nothing is better than going home to family and eating good food and relaxing”. People knew the value of food. They were aware of their food, lifestyle and health. But in the past recent years, there has been an addition of another new source of health issue. Watching TV or using a mobile phone while eating food. People who do such stuff explain this as “MULTITASKING” which saves time. But this actually has an ill effect on both physical and mental health of an individual. I would suggest turning off the television screen as well as a smartphone screen. Because watching TV or using a mobile phone are the worst things you can do while consuming food. If you’re paying attention to what’s on the TV or the mobile screen, then obviously you’re not paying attention to what’s going into your mouth.

Remember food is for eating, and good food is to be enjoyed. Nature is so smart, it puts the medicine inside the food. Actually, medicine is not at all healthcare. Food is real healthcare. In fact, medicine is just sick-care. Let's all get this straight for a cause. It is rightly said that "Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise, you have to eat medicines as your food".

When it comes for parenting getting your child to eat the food is not the easiest of tasks. Children are often quite fussy when it comes to eating and what we usually do is hand them a smartphone to fidget with while eating! While children are busy with the smartphone, they’re distracted enough to quite literally, gobble up their food. Let’s be honest. Most of us love having some quiet freedom from kid's noisiness, so what we do is just shoving a screen in front of them just makes our task easier, right? Before you do this just remember that this leads to severe addiction, eating too much or eating too less, not chewing properly, and even lack interaction with the family members. We, adults, commit the same mistake, few unknowingly and many knowingly.

Instead, parents should make time for their children and tell them stories from our epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata which conveys moral values and leads them on the right path of their lives. Children learn from elders. There should be at least one get together of family members every day and if I am not wrong dinner time would be the best. Children should be made to share their daily experiences and interact with the family members while having food rather than having electronic screens.

There are many ways to perceive others. We should start choosing the one which magnifies the positive and avoids the negative. So let us be aware of what and how much we are eating and the most important part is to avoid all the TV and mobile screen. Let’s also make sure that our loved ones are also aware of the same.

Yours lovingly,
Jogi B Mahesh
